JOYFUL LEARNING
community collaborations

student opportunities
Students spanning from 18 months to high school seniors recently gathered for a parade, uniting in celebration of our triumphant CIF Southern Section D2 Football team, securing their second consecutive state championship. Amidst the jubilation, Superintendent April McArthur, Athletic Director Jeremias Valencia, coaches, administrators, and community representatives shared spirited speeches.
The joy and pride were palpable throughout the campus, extending beyond the football field into classrooms, halls, and playgrounds. Our vibrant learning environment resonated with cheer, creating an atmosphere where students are eager to take pride in their school while cultivating a passion for learning. The festive celebration, covered by television media, showcased the unity and enthusiasm that define our school community, emphasizing that success is not only on the field but also in the joyful pursuit of knowledge within our classrooms.

Thank You for your Support!

Special thank you to CSDR Alumni Association (CSDRAA) for funding the cost for the formal frame and portrait of Superintendent April McArthur, and to Families School Community Association (FSCA) for covering the additional costs. This is a wonderful gift from alumni and families, to add to the framed portrait collage of all previous superintendents, that will last for the next generations of the school.

The CSDR Story (1945-2003)
Contributed by Kevin Struxness ‘76
Uncover the Untold Tale! Dive into The CSDR Story with a concise 430-page history book featuring 500 captivating photos. Authored principally by Kevin Struxness, '76, who spent 13 years doing research and writing, this treasure unveils the forgotten legacy of school founder Perry E. Seely. The founder was President of California Association of the Deaf, who fought for 20 years to obtain approval for a new school, temporarily named Southern California School for the Deaf (SCSD). The book lists all the graduates from 1956 to 2008, sports records and memories of the students and staff, to name a few. From legislative triumphs in the '40s to campus memories in the 2000s, The CSDR Story paints a vivid picture of CSDR's rich journey.

school goals for ceasd & wasc dual accreditations
CSDR is in its mid-cycle of the approved Action Plan to meet four identified school-wide goals that focus on the following areas:
Improve student proficiency in Language Arts, Math, and Science standards measured by performance results on multiple measures of assessment with a special focus on the success of our identified at-risk subgroups to close the achievement gap.
